An Overview of Distributed Virtual Address Space Management in the Shadow-project

This paper presents the distributed virtual address management (VAS) used in the project Shadow. The management is derivated from language level concepts for distributed programming that hide the distributed nature of the execution environment as far as possible. The distributed resource management architecture is based on a decentralized autonomous manager agent architecture that is constructed in a top-down oriented manner. The resulting scalable VAS organization is the basis for a distributed shared memory (DSM) that supports individual handling of objects of any gran-ularity. The paper gives a short overview of the manager agent architecture and the data structure used to manage a VAS by a collection of manager agents.
